Lyndon Johnson Biography - Introduction
Lyndon Baines Johnson (commonly shortened to LBJ), was born on August 27th 1908, he was an intriguing and almost overpowering man, in his own right. From growing up in a small town, developing his public speaking and political techniques through his work in college, congress, then vice president, and eventual position of the President of the United States of America.
His presidency was originally gained after the tragic events of the assassination of John F Kennedy. After that term was over, he ran for presidency once more in 1964. His time as president was followed by Richard Nixon.
Through his time in congress and in presidency, he helped improve many situations within the poverty that America was starting to suffer under, and bringing about the Medicare system.
He was also known, not favourably by some, for his inclusion of thousands more soldier into the war in Vietnam that was currently taking place. His efforts to take the amount of soldiers from a few thousand to slightly over half a million were not received well by the political activists at the time.
Some deemed his political career purely successful for his ability to pressure people into agreeing with his decisions; many people also hinted towards bribery (whether physically with money, or mentally) however such an allegation has never been investigated due to its controversy.
Lyndon Johnson was a heavy smoker, and also diagnosed with heart disease and passed away on January 22nd 1973 in Texas.
