Lyndon Johnson Biography - Early Political Career
Johnson’s father was already well versed in politics, having already spent over 4 terms operating within Texas legislature. Having already had several close friends and therefore contacts in the political industry, Johnson was a prime candidate for joining politics and starting to get his opinions put across to the areas across Texas. Soon after elections were taking place, Johnson was placed as congressman Kleburg’s legislative secretary, thus Lyndon Johnson was able to get his foot in the door with several political goings on, and learning the tricks of the trade which surely guaranteed his future position as congressman.
In 1935, a year after his marriage to long time partner ‘Lady Bird’, Johnson was honoured with the position of the president of the Texas National Youth Administration. The position entitled Johnson with great power, in terms of being able to report his findings on the situation of the local youth community. The job allowed him to create employment opportunities for the young people in Texas, as well as inform the government of the situations that the local teenagers were facing at a daily basis.
After a short period working under that title, he resigned to run for congress which was his original dream, when entering the world of politics.
